About this test
The VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) or RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) Qualitative test screens for syphilis by detecting non-specific antibodies in the blood serum. These antibodies are produced in response to infection with Treponema pallidum, the bacterium causing syphilis. This test is recommended for individuals with symptoms of syphilis, those with a known exposure, or as part of routine prenatal screening.
